As spring has hit in Tucson and you can hear the
aggressive engines roar from Stone Ave. on down to Craycroft Rd, the Camaro has
long been the dominating force during legitimate and not-so-legitimate racing.
The folks on staff at Automobile Blog did an up-close feature on
the 2020 Camaro this past week, and the new transmission option for the V-6 was
one of the prime centers of journalistic attention. There are also multiple
design updates to make up for some changes last year that were not necessarily
as widely-accepted as the engineers and developers had hoped.
It was also noted that there is now a cheaper way
to get a V-8, as the brand-new Camaro LT1 creates a balance between the 1LT and the higher SS
trim. This is the absolute most affordable Camaro with the 455-hp 6.2-liter
V-8, and it rings in at $3,000 lower than the 2019 Camaro 1SS. On top of the
bigger engine, it gets the SS model's vented hood, but the exterior styling is
otherwise mostly similar to the LT. The 20-inch wheels are one additional
exception: they are styled like those on the SS, but are not as overly wide and
are wrapped in all-season tired instead of the traditional SS's
special-for-summer performance rubber. This particular trim is available for
both convertible and coupe models, and you can choose from a six-speed manual
or 10-speed automatic.
We are glad that the Automobile Blog
crew agrees that by popular demand, the SS definitely looks better. The new
front-end look is based on the Camaro Shock concept that debuted last fall
during SEMA. The bowtie is now moved from the front crossbar to the upper part
of the grille, and the bar is also now painted body color as opposed to black,
which does a good job of reducing the weight you see visually on the front end.
Many who have been longstanding fans of the auto industry recognize the Mustang
as the Camaro's number one rival, and are excited that the Camaro will now
offer Rally Green exterior color for its 2020 models.
The rear spoiler and Recaros are now much more
available for the Camaro enthusaist. The rear spoiler was previously available
only with the RS package, but will now be offered on the LT and LS trims.
Recaro performance seats now are spread to the LT, and red seatbelts as well as
aluminum pedal caps are available on every single model. You can also now score
the LT and LS with tinted taillamp lenses, and you can now get red or orange
brake calipers on the LT1, LT, and SS models. You can also score the Camaro
fender badge and black bowtie badge for the LT on the 2020 model. Road
and Track also ran an article about the “fix to the face” that the
Camaro went through you can check out here, and they were just as excited as all of us here
at O'Rielly about its
track-ready and tremendously-tuned release!
