The GM Authority blog ran a story
last week that set out to see just how big and spacious the Traverse is
compared to its adversaries and crunch the numbers for some valuable clues. The
2020 Chevy Traverse rides on a 120.9-inch wheelbase, which is the longest in
its segment. It sports an overall length of 204.3 inches, a width of 78.6
inches, and a 70.7-inch roof height. It is the longest overall and one of the
widest and tallest, with its closest rival in overall size coming in the form
of the Dodge Durango.
It is just slightly longer than the full-size,
body-on-frame 2020 Chevy Tahoe SUV, although the Tahoe is roughly two inches
wider and taller. The dimensions of the exterior allow for a nice payoff when
you get down to passenger space, offering up generous amounts of headroom,
legroom, and shoulder room. Within its segment, the 2002 Traverse ranks
above-average in almost every dimension and provides the most accommodating
space of all for third-row passengers. The Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride
come close in the space race, with the sporty Mazda CX-9 and the Toyota
Highlander being the smallest in the segment with the least spacious third-row
seating overall.
One important attribute that this article lays out
well is regarding the cargo capacity and how the Traverse dominates its competition in that
category. Behind the third row is 23 cubic feet of cargo, coming in first place without a doubt in
the race. Only the Atlas and Telluride are close behind at all, with 21 and 20.6 cubic feet,
respectively. Behind the first row with the second and third row folded, and all rear seats
folded, the Traverse boasts an overall cargo volume of 98.2 cubic feet, with only the Atlas
coming at all close at 96.8. If your business or family requires what seems like a daunting amount
of space to flourish, one fantastic choice is the Traverse, clearly leading the way as far as
how much you can carry and the cold hard statistics of size!
